WoW – Stompin'

Draenor mapI finally followed the Nagrand breadcrumb quest on Alouette (my paladin) this morning, and was riding over to Telarii Station, minding my own business, when I saw a hunter kiting a big old elite elekk (elephant for the non-WoW peeps) all around a field. I jumped in to help, as one does, because this expansion finally rewards jumping in and helping in the open world (unlike the 10 previous years of World of Warcraft). So anyway, I tanked away as best I could as a level 99 98 against a level 100 elite critter, and as the seconds trickled by more people joined in until eventually Luk’hok lay dead.

And everyone looted, as one does. I was expecting some gear, maybe an upgrade, and some decent xp, and instead I got… A MOUNT!!!

This is a big deal for me. So in response to Atherne’s comment the other day, I now have the silly animal headgear, the plushie (oh, and I made Soul of the Forge too), AND a mount. All the important stuff.

meadowstomper

Which is still just as well, because I’m still out of garrison resources. And money. If there are any WoW-playing sugar-daddies (or mommies, I’m not picky) out there, do let me know. If all else fails, my night elf does a mean mailbox dance.

WoW – U Can't Touch This

The best guildies are the ones who point out the stuff you absolutely have to know. Like the fact that there’s a, er… wearable bird in the trees of the level 3 garrison.

PepeAll the cool kids are wearing one. Oh, and that’s not a huge feather sticking out of Pepe’s butt, it’s Memento’s old Warlock-quest scythe which I still transmog all her weapons to. Because SCYTHE.

The rest is just gravy. Like this silly tree-chopping contraption. Large timber shall be mine, all mine – which is just as well, because I’m out of garrison resources. And money.

Big timber

WoW – Creepy Battle Pet is Creepy

I couldn’t wait to make the Elekk Plushie battle pet, and as soon as I had 50 hexcloth I immediately wasted used them on that. And he’s cute… until you summon him. Then he’s just creepy.

Elekk plushieHe doesn’t move, see, and that’s the problem. He just sort of stands there, staring at you with those pink button eyes. And then you move, and he stays where he was, and you forget all about him… until you stop again somewhere and suddenly he’s there, right behind you, staring at you with those pink button eyes.

It ain’t natural, I tells ya.

WoW – Noobness Never Dies

Just to prove that I’m not lying when I say I’m a perma-noob — I’ve done the quest in the screenshot three times already and NOT ONCE did I notice the 4th ingredient in the top right (the quest doesn’t necessarily use all four possible ingredients). It was only after my druid failed three times to get the ‘glowy’ ingredient that I, puzzled that none of the three ingredients were working, went and checked the quest out on WoWHead.

If I’d been a bit less of a noob I’d have remembered that the previous quest had me gather four ingredients to make that potion with. Duh.

noobness

WoW – Random Draenor pix

Forget pepper jack, magic jack or lumberjack — all the best people use COMMANDOJACK!

commandjoackIs it sad that I take a picture of every single garrison building I complete, on every character?

GinworksRiding my Shinri “mount” in Shadowmoon Valley. I should have known that was too easy a kill to reward an actual mount (it’s a 10-second directable mount-ride useable only in SMV with a 1-hour cooldown)…

ShinriMoonrise, squared (or cubed?).

Two moons over draenorMixing our mythoses (mythiii?)…

sword in stoneAnd my warlock, Memento, made it to 100, but I wasn’t expecting it (as usual) and missed the photo-op.

World of Warcraft – Garrison Love

It might be fashionable to hate on WoW, but I’m going to buck the trend and give it some love, because so far this expansion is the shiz. I came late to both Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King, so I only experienced Cataclysm and Pandaria when they first launched, and of those three this is definitely my favourite. For one thing it’s a 10-level expansion, which feels a bit more filling than the previous 5-level ones — but mostly it’s because of garrisons.

I hereby predict a LOT of alt levelling, as though there wasn’t enough of it in WoW already. As a card-carrying altoholic, this makes me very happy indeed.

It’s been all of 2 days, granted (since the FixItAll™ patch on Saturday morning), but I have been Wowcracking the whole time. And ok, that sounds even worse than I thought it would, but I’ll own it.

I’m levelling my warlock because hunter-levelling-with-friends, and speaking of which, here’s a funny that did the rounds this weekend:

level together

— so yeah, I’ve been levelling the warlock (tangent #2, can you say ‘OP’?), and since garrison development is tied to a character’s progress through the expansion content, her garrison is the farthest along at the moment.

It may not be housing, but I give you:

My very own mine - with nodey goodness!
My very own mine – with nodey goodness!

And…

My very own lumber mill, which I'm not sure what it's good for yet
My very own lumber mill, which I’m not sure what it’s good for yet

And…

My bank

My very own bank, which means that soon I’ll never need to leave my garrison and see those pesky OTHER PEOPLE ever again!! Ain’t life grand?!

I also have an enchanting building but right now it’s a tad underwhelming. I’m sure it’ll be more entertaining at max level — as always, most things in the expansion are designed for max level chars, but the getting-to-max journey is as entertaining as it ever was. If there’s one thing WoW does well it’s the levelling content, which I’ve always found weird considering it’s supposedly secondary to everything else.

Anyway, it’s been fun. And that’s all you get because I need to log on and send my mini-onions followers on some missions. Work work!
